About Ulu Yam Sakya Tharig Monastery

The ULU YAM SAKTA THARIG MONASTRY located in proximately of Ulu Yam Bharu town is a Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. This monastery is connected to Sakya Monastry in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Originally, this monastery was found and built by Reverand Seck Wen Teck in early 1980. Reverand Seck Wen Teck started with a self-made wooden case by the river side while practicing Buddha teachings of Theravada linage attained during his short stay in Thailand.

Then Reverand Seck Wen Teck built the first structure (a shrine for four face Buddha) in year 1985. A proper living building was constructed in 1987 and follow by some retreat rooms. This temple was name as KUIL BUDDHA SIAM. Reverand Seck Wen Teck travelled to Nepal and met Sakya Tharig Rinpoche (6th reincarnated) whereby he was convinced and having high respect with Venerable Tharig Rinpoche Buddhist way of teaching.

When the main prayer hall was completed in 1998, Reverand Seck Wen Teck personally renamed Kuil Siam Monastry to SAKYA THARIG ULU YAM MONASTRY. The open ceremony was conducted by His Holiness Sakya Trichen Rinpoche together with few others notable and respected high monks of Thevada, Maharana and Varjayana lineage.

In the year 2002, a new building planned for OLD FOLKS HOME was build. Today, Ulu Yam Sakya Tharig Monastry is managed by a committee under the trusted guidance of our 7th reincarnated Sakya Tharig Rinpoche preserving Buddhist teachings and establishing monastic practices. Most important, this monastery acts as a spiritual hub for SAKYA community in Malaysia.
